Film is the youngest and the new art technology (motion pictures), but it uses the old art information technologies (IT) drama, performance, paintings, sound and etc. How? This is the core of this course.
[ I'm using 200x pages for all my classes as fundamentals of aesthetics! ]
This is an introductory course about the Aesthetics, I taught for the Honors @ University of Alaska Fairbanks. I usually do not teach it; must be many errors on the pages -- please report, if you see them.

I do not teach this class often and I built this directory only because the course does serve as the entering point for my other Film and Theatre classes. The goal is to introduced the basic terminology and principles of visual composition. Especially important for THR470 Film Directing and THR331 fundamentals of Directions. Film & Drama (now it's "Movies and Films") is the next level of the 200x core course. I still believe that it is possible to introduced the "old" arts from the new medium of cinema. Even more -- to introduce it through the MOVIES!Can we start with the Pulp Fiction in order for me to talkk about Aristotle, Poetics and Leonardo?
PS. Folks, there are dead links on my pages, please report!

SummaryThis is the course I do not teach anymore, but use the webpages to support ALL other classes. Perhaps, this is the only page for HS students. At least, this is place where you have to start.
QuestionsHow should I plug-in this directory on other pages?
Notes* Acting I : BioMethod
I do not have time to teach it again, but to my surprise I found that I use the core pages for all my classes.
I feel like a couch too often; I have to return to the basics time and again, if I want to get the results in acting or directing classes. The students are probably are sick of Aristotle's references, but, nevertheless, the practical applications of the Poetics are not easy.
Yes, the understand it... they don't know how to make it work! I try to be easy on students. Afterall, I teach Shakespeare and Chekhov, but can't write like them. Well, I guess, I don't understand what I teach too well...
Hey, you, the HS kids! This is the only place where you can and should begin surfing my pages. Everything starts with appreciation (even if it's movies) -- We will try to get to FILMS through movies -- and to other "old" arts: theatre, art, music... Of course, you love movies. Now the question is WHY?
Music Or should I put it as a formula?
You see, here is my problem in teaching Acting, Directing, Drama and Film classes -- I have to introduce the basics. You know, Aristotle, The Poetics. So, I had to collect it here, in the 200X core course. I will try to keep it as simple as possible. Consider it as INTRODUCTION to theatre and/or film.
This is the book I wanted to write 30 years ago.
Never had time to get to it.
Thanks to the Web; I wrote it online! I'm writing it at least.
PrefacePS. For the cyber students: if you feel that my other web-supported classes are too advanced for, start here.
I left "Dada" in the picture. Why?
Read the webtextbook!
Use dictionaries in the main directories on acting, directing, film analysis!
NEW: Biomechanics: I teach this course in the Fall of 2001, and I will reorganize the whole structure, making it indeed "art and theatre through film" (two contemporary interpretations of Hamlet, with the reading of the play in the middle and developing a stage concept as a class project with assigned functions -- actors, designers and etc.)
[ 200x pages are not updated, 2003 ... ]
Should we come back to Film Page at the end of each section?
